If you’re in the market for design assistance with your home, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. You may wonder who does what and what’s really the difference?
The Proper Possum offers interior styling services, which is focused more on the arrangement and overall aesthetic of a space. We excel and delight in the choosing, arranging and styling of furnishings, colors, fabrics, wall coverings, accessories and more.
We DON’T offer design services such as drawing architectural plans, construction renovations or overseeing contractors or installations. We DO have vendors we work with that can help in some of these areas (painters, electricians, plumbers, furniture transit, wallpaper installers, etc) and are happy to recommend what you need. We also don’t maintain stock or storage of furniture and home accessories. Why not? This adds substantially to overhead and those fees add up.
Our secret sauce is simplicity, and this helps us bring more attainably awesome interior style to homes just like yours.

Contrary to what the name implies, there’s a bonafide human running the show here at The Proper Possum. Apologies if you were expecting a really savvy, snappily-dressed marsupial.
I’m Jen Mageau (pronounced May-Jo) and I like to think of myself as your girlfriend with a good eye. My pre-possum career has spanned over twenty years as an Art Director/Designer in the advertising industry and also as an educator and mentor for aspiring creatives.
I’ve always had a passion and intuitive knack for styling home interiors. After many years of personal interior projects for myself, friends and family, I decided to offer these services professionally to anyone looking to elevate their own everyday spaces.
My own home is an eclectic mix of Chinoiserie ginger jars, my mother’s vintage furniture nestled amid more modern finds, treasured mementos from life’s adventures, and constantly-forming dog hair tumbleweeds.
Dorothy was right.
There really is no place like home; your home should make you feel joyfully content. Trends can be fun, but ultimately, your home is yours. Ideally, a space of daily refuge, rejuvenation and unique expression that’s not just beautiful, but functional.
